What to Expect

What to Expect

For some people, going to a new church can be a bit intimidating, even scary.

If you have an idea what to expect, it can be easier to worship with us.

Parking

When you arrive at 53rd and Locust streets you will notice we don’t have much of a parking lot. Like most urban churches in Milwaukee, we have street parking available. You won’t have to walk too far, though, since there are usually plenty of open places on 53rd street both north and south of Locust.

Building Information

You may find the steps that lead up to the front door a bit steep. For your convenience, we have an elevator on the south side of our main entrance.

When you walk through the front door and enter our lobby (sometimes called the “narthex”) you will be greeted by an usher who will offer you a bulletin. The bulletin has the full order of service printed in it. We also project the order of service on a screen at the front of the church.

When you enter the church (sometimes called the “sanctuary”) you’ll notice it is pretty traditional in style and architecture. We have stained glass windows and pews.

Our Congregation

People are dressed pretty casually, though a few men may wear ties and some women will wear dresses. You might notice that those in worship are a “multi-ethnic” mix of people. We value diversity at Mount Calvary and we are blessed to live in the diverse Sherman Park neighborhood. We see this as one of our strengths.

How We Worship

Our service is traditional with hymn singing led by a pipe organ. Our order of service begins in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It continues with a confession of sin, readings from the Bible, a message, and most Sundays, the celebration of Holy Communion. Our worship is centered around Christ and what He has done for us. We are convinced that Jesus is the best hope for the heart of our city.
