Have you ever been around someone who shouted to another person, because the other person spoke a different language, and the thought was that a louder volume meant better understanding?
On Sunday we will celebrate Pentecost. The disciples were given the gift of speaking in other languages so that all could understand the gift of God's grace brought to earth through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Apparently there was a loud "buzz" that first Pentecost day, because about 3000 (!) people came to faith and were baptized. It wasn't the volume OR the language...it was the content of the message that delivered forgiveness of sins to people whose greatest need was just that.
God uses your voice, your language, loudly or softly, to share the greatest news the world has ever known. Let's celebrate that this Sunday at church as we witness a baptism, hear the Word, worship and praise, and respond to God's grace. If you've read this far, I have a special request for you: WEAR RED ON SUNDAY as a way to celebrate. It will also tell me that you have read this email...I promise...it will be our little secret!
Pray that Mt. Calvary would be a congregation filled with the Holy Spirit! Bring others to Mt. Calvary to hear the sweet message of the Gospel! Tell others about the gift of the Holy Spirit that can be theirs through God's means of grace! |
