A voice is almost like a fingerprint: It's a distinctive thing. No two are really alike. When you hear a family member on the other end of the phone, you know exactly whom it is. They don't even have to tell you. The voices of those close to you are very familiar to you.
For most of us, from infancy, we have heard the voice of Jesus. It is a voice that is familiar, because we have heard it from the pulpit in church, from the pages of Scripture, and from the teaching of parents, guardians, and other Christians.
It's a shame that far too often we have the opportunity to listen to the familiar voice of Jesus, but we tune it out or turn it off. It seems that it's far more interesting to listen to the voices that call out the temptations of the world or our own sinful flesh. But the voice of Jesus proclaims peace, comfort, and love. It delivers the thing we most desperately need: Forgiveness.
Pray that that every member of our church would yearn for and long to hear the voice of Jesus in the Word every day, and in church every Sunday! Bring others to Mt. Calvary to hear the comforting message of the Good Shepherd! Tell others about Jesus, so that they too can become familiar with the most beautiful voice of all! |
