For God So Loved the World
By Pastor Eggebrecht @ 11:57 AM :: 314 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Pastors Message

Lent, for some people, seems like a spiritually "dark" time of the year. And, in some respects, it is. It is a time to focus on the fact that we, as sinful human beings, are lost in the darkness of our sin.

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World. But when He came to us, reaching out to us in love, even dying for us in love, we rejected that love, turned away, and followed our own dark desires. Sunday's Gospel Lesson reminds us that we "loved darkness rather than the light."

But Lent brings Light to us, as well. Jesus Christ is the Light of the World...the Light no darkness can overcome! Not even the deepest darkness of our sin could snuff out or cover up that light. Jesus was lifted up on the cross to deliver light and love to the world.

It all boils down to probably the most recognized verse in all the Bible, sometimes known as the "Gospel in a Nutshell": "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

Pray for our church, that we would receive, know, and shine the light of Christ's love! Bring others to worship at Mt. Calvary, where they will find the darkness of sin driven out and the light of Christ shining forth! Tell others about God, who loved the world so much that He gave His only-begotten Son!
